Kalahari-Safari This route leads us into a remote area of the Kalahari Desert. You will be one of only a few visitors who will get the chance to see this unique and very beautiful wildlife reserve. The Mabuasehube Game Reserve is next to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park. There are no fences between the parks. The game can migrate freely along the natural trails. This means that large quantities of game can be found in this area. Due to the presence of abundant prey, the predators are not too far. Lions, cheetahs, leopards, spotted and brown hyenas, lynx and wildcats. Tour Program Day 1: We will pick you up at Upington airport fully equipped. We leave Upington early in the morning, and drive to the Kgalagadi National Park - across the border to Botswana to up to Two Rivers or Rooiputs. Here, in the wild, we set up camp. Facilities in all Botswana camps are very basic. Each campsite has an A-frame shade construction, long drop toilet, mostly NO water. We camp in the wilderness of the Kalahari with NO protective fencing. Nothing to worry about though, as you'll have a well-experienced tour guide who can handle the situation. Enjoy dinner around the fire while listening to the typical Kalahari nocturnal sounds. Don’t be surprised if you hear the call of a Kalahari lion, hyena or black-backed jackal during the night. Overnight stay: Camping at Two Rivers or Rooiputs (depending on availability) Meals: Dinner Day 2: Maybe the roar of a lion will wake you early in the morning as the water hole at Rooiputs is famous for attracting ‘big cats’! After breakfast we go on a morning safari drive. We return to camp for lunch for a break before setting out on our evening safari drive. Overnight stay: Camping at Two Rivers or Rooiputs (depending on availability) Meals: Full board Day 3: The early bird catches the worm! What secrets will the Kalahari reveal today? How fascinating will it be coming across a cheetah hunting its prey! The Kalahari is also a bird watcher’s paradise, as more than 20 different birds of prey are found in the Kalahari. Overnight stay: Camping at Two Rivers or Rooiputs (depending on availability) Meals: Full board Day 4: We leave the Kgalagadi Park and drive south wards to Bokspits and further east via Tsabong to Mabuasehube Game Reserve. We will report to the ranger on duty, who will certainly welcome company. He will give us some useful information as where to find interesting game. We set up our camp on the edge of a big saltpan. This will be our base for the next 2 days. Overnight stay: Camping at Mabuasehube Game Reserve (water available) Meals: Full board |
