| Day 7: Today we drive on the 'Kalahari Highway' north up to Ghanzi, the main town of the district. Close by is the Kalahari Trail Blazer Camp where we stay over in typical Bushmen huts. A small lake, something not to be expected in the Kalahari, is found here. This will give us the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim. After dinner we sit around the campfire and enjoy the traditional Bushmen dance. Overnight stay: Bushmen hut Kalahari Trail Blazer Camp Meals: Dinner Day 8: Before breakfast (early morning) you will have the privilege of going on a walking safari with the 'real children of the Kalahari', the Bushmen. This will be an exceptional experience as you will discover a lot about the daily way of life of the original inhabitants of this region from the masters themselves. We then return to Kang. Overnight stay: Chalet Kang Ultra Lodge Meals: Breakfast Day 9: Today our drive takes us via Werda and Tsabong to McCarthy's Rest (border). We overnight at Cullinan Guest Farm in huts. Overnight stay: Huts Cullinan Guest Farm Meals: Dinner Day 10: After breakfast we hit the road back to Upington via Hotazel, Kathu and Olifantshoek. We'll arrive in Upington late afternoon. Overnight stay: Double room in Upington Meals: Breakfast Additional Program4x4 Training We offer you a basic training in driving a 4x4 vehicle (with diploma) during this tour. We will tell you more about the secrets of handling a 4x4 vehicle in desert conditions. What is possible? What are the limits? You will be very proud when you master your first dune under the guidance of an expert. Participants: minimum 2 people Further notes: Staying in the Botswana wilderness is only possible if we are fully self-contained and independent. We have to compromise on comfort. It also requires limited water consumption. Luggage: Only necessary clothes can be taken and must be packed in a soft travel bag. MAXIMUM: 10kg per person!! All other luggage will be stored safely in Upington. Equipment: All our 4x4 vehicles are in top condition and equipped with GPS, radio and compressor. Our camping equipment is also only the best. This tour takes you to a very remote area of the Kalahari Desert, making you one of only a few privileged visitors who have the opportunity to become one with all the secrets of nature this wonderful desert has to offer and go on a walk with the 'real children of the Kalahari', the San Bushmen. They will bring you in direct contact with their everyday life. Tour Program Day 1: We pick you up - fully equipped - at the Upington Airport from where we drive to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park up to Rooiputs. Facilities in all Botswana camps are very basic. Each campsite has an A-frame shade construction, long drop toilet, mostly NO water. We camp in the wilderness of the Kalahari with NO protective fencing. Nothing to worry about though, as you'll have a well-experienced tour guide who can handle the situation. Enjoy dinner around the fire while listening to the typical Kalahari nocturnal sounds - especially lion, hyena or black backed jackal. Overnight stay: Camping Rooiputs (limited water) Meals: Dinner Day 2: Maybe the roar of a lion will wake you early in the morning as the water hole at Rooiputs is famous for attracting ‘big cats’! After breakfast we go on a morning safari drive. We return to camp for lunch for a break before setting out on our evening safari drive. Overnight stay: Camping Rooiputs (limited water) Meals:Full board Day 3: On our safari drive through the Kalahari National Park via Nossob Camp to Polentswa, you will observe a wide variety of game, such as Oryx, Springbok, maybe the black-maned Kalahari Lion and plenty more. Overnight stay: Camping Polentswa (limited water) Meals: Full board Day 4: Our safari drive takes us to the most northern point of the Kgalagadi Park at Union’s End. What animals will we come across today? Maybe we’ll be fortunate enough to discover a cheetah hunting his prey? Overnight stay: Camping Polentswa (limited water) Meals: Full board Day 5: Driving a little further north, we turn eastwards and drive on 4x4 trails through the whole Botswana part of the Park up to Kaa where we'll set up camp. Water is available to enjoy a shower. What can we expect to observe today? Maybe lovable surricats, the real symbol of the Kalahari desert. Overnight stay: Camping Kaa (water available) Meals: Full board Day 6: We leave the Kgalagadi Park and drive through the Kaa Concession Area up to Hukuntsi, reaching the first filling-station in 4 days. We continue our journey to Kang where we overnight in chalets at Kang Ultra Lodge. Overnight stay: Chalet Kang Ultra Lodge Meals: Breakfast & Lunch. Dinner (not included) facultative at restaurant. |
